QV Students Attend Prestigious PMEA Performances
The Quaker Valley music program helped several students advance to PMEA events this year. PMEA stands for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, an organization dedicated to supporting music education throughout the entire state of Pennsylvania. It is a competitive organization that students all around Pennsylvania audition to be part of.
Students in band, choir, and orchestra audition to take part in annual festivals sponsored by the PMEA organization. Quaker Valley students are privileged to be able to have the opportunity to audition and be a part of this prestigious organization.
Sophomore Alexa Kharytonova made it into the PMEA District Band this year. As for orchestra, Ainsley Anderson and Lauren Happe made it to Districts. Anderson also represented Quaker Valley at the Regional festival in February.
Nine students advanced to PMEA District Choir, five of whom made it to the next round at Regional Choir. The nine students accepted into PMEA District I choir were Alexa Kharytonova, Sevin Leghorn, Charlotte Liao, Violet Muders, Joelle Muretisch, Isaac Palladini, Milo Taylor-Martin, Louisa Webster and Bennett Wyche. The five students who were accepted into the Regional Choir will represent Quaker Valley at the festival in March 2025. These five students were Sevin Leghorn, Joelle Muretisch, Isaac Palladini, Milo Taylor-Martin and Louisa Webster.
Make Some Noise for Pep Band
Quaker Valley High School offers many opportunities that allow students to immerse themselves into the band program. Students can opt to participate in marching band, concert band and “Pep Band.” Pep Band is the only music program at Quaker Valley that is run completely by students. There are three people who lead the organization: Senior Director Ari Ahmed, Drumline Manager Reagan Eichert and Assistant Director Evan James. James is grateful for the opportunity to lead his peers in this organization. “Pep Band is a fun way to enjoy band with peers,” James said. “As a student-led organization, it allows for more freedom . . . it also introduces younger members of the band [to] the idea of leadership.” These three students lead 39 musicians in boosting the energy at QV’s boys and girls varsity basketball teams.
