The QV MiniTHON club has several fundraising initiatives planned for this spring to continue raising money for Four Diamonds, a nonprofit organization that supports children battling cancer and their families.

Each month at various restaurants in the community, there will be a featured fundraising night when a percentage of the profits made will go straight to benefiting children fighting pediatric cancer. The club’s Wing Night at Sidelines in Sewickley was successful. Every five dollars from an order of wings went to helping patients. There was also a fundraising night at Panera Bread in February. MiniTHON members hope to continue this campaign with Moe’s fundraising night in March and Noodles & Company’s event in April. The restaurant nights mark an important venture into the surrounding community for MiniTHON.

“We are excited to branch out more as a club this year and find more involvement in our community,” MiniTHON Financial Director Gemma Wiegand said.

In addition to fundraising dinners, the club will be bringing back spring “flocking” for the second year in a row, which will be starting in the third trimester. “Flocks” of MiniTHON’s plastic flamingos will be coming out of their “hibernation” in hopes of traveling around local yards and classrooms when donors contribute to the cause. Margaret Burns, a club member, finds flocking to be a great way to get the community talking about Four Diamonds. “Flocking brings awareness to a beneficial cause and gets the community involved in a fun and accessible way,” Burns said.

In addition to their fundraising dinners and flocking initiatives, the club also partnered with the QVHS musical. MiniTHON sold an assortment of themed raffle baskets during the run of shows, and all proceeds made went to Four Diamonds.

MiniTHON has a multitude of engaging projects on the horizon. Students can stay updated by following the club on instagram @qvminithon. The Four Diamonds website is

always accepting donations. As always, everything the club does is “FTK—for the kids.”
