A new club has been established at Quaker Valley High School! The QV Student Gay-Straight Alliance or Gender-Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is an organization focused on education and connection on LGBTQ+ issues. The club is open to anyone who wants to join, regardless of sexuality or gender.
The Student GSA has a few goals that they are trying to achieve. Sophomore Stevin Wallace, president and founder of the group, says that the Student GSA is attempting to “work towards a more accepting school environment for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity through education, support, social action, and advocacy.”
By their second meeting, the Student GSA was already planning out leadership roles and brainstorming ideas for helping the school become more accepting and welcoming. Already, members of the club have been using pins with pronouns printed on them to avoid mistakes regarding a person’s pronouns.
The group meets every other Tuesday after school from 3:00 to 4:30 in Ms. Revo’s room. Even though the club deals with heavy issues regarding the LGBTQIA+ community, they still make sure to find a way to have fun at their meetings. For example, the last half hour of the meeting is a hang out time with snacks and music.
For any questions regarding the Student GSA or if you would want to be added to the email update list, please contact Stevin Wallace at qv24wallaces@qvmail.org
