This year, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” leads the list with 11 whopping nominations.
As for fun facts, if “All Quiet on the Western Front” wins Best Picture, it will be the first time a remake of a previous Best Picture (1931) wins the same award. If Paul Mescal wins Best Actor for “Aftersun,” he will become the youngest winner of the Best Actor Oscar, dethroning Adrian Brody when he won in 2003.
Now for my hot takes and predictions!
Best Picture: I have no doubt in my mind that Steven Spielberg will win for his semi-autobiographical film, “The Fablemans” because Spielberg is such a huge name in the industry already. It certainly helps that it already won a Golden Globe. I would also like to issue a personal apology to all dads out there because Top Gun: Maverick will most definitely not win.
Now, here’s the big question: Where does “Don’t Worry Darling” stand? Many claim it was completely snubbed from the list, which I might agree with, especially since that movie really did feel like a movie.
Best Actor: The general rule for male acting is that if you yell, you win. Who does the most yelling in the lineup? Brenden Fraser in “The Whale.” That being said, Austin Butler puts up a strong fight considering he won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his performance in “Elvis,” And biopics typically do well during awards season.
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett is a shoo-in for this Oscar. In terms of controversy surrounding this award, Ana de Armas was nominated for her performance of Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde,” but the odds are still in Blanchett’s favor for her performance in “Tár.”
